Built in the late 19th century by the Compagnie des Mines d'Anzin, this magnificent Neo-Renaissance estate was constructed specifically to house the elite chief administrators and engineers who managed the local coal pits. Transferred to the municipality to safeguard its deep history, it is recognized globally as an integral, protected asset of the UNESCO World Heritage Mining Basin.
Architecture & Industrial Pride
The castle presents a striking architectural silhouette that showcases the vast corporate wealth flowing through the Valenciennes mining basin during the height of the Industrial Revolution.
The Facade: The exterior architecture is stunning, blending classic local brickwork with majestic stone columns and frontons. A major architectural highlight is the prominent carved stone crest (cartouche) positioned right over the primary entrance, proudly displaying authentic mining tools—including cross hammers, picks, and miner's lamps—carved directly into the stone facade.
The Structure: Designed as a "Château d'Industrie," the building shifts completely away from medieval defense, prioritizing large, light-filled rooms and a grand central entryway meant to impress high-profile business visitors and international investors.
The Transformation into an Urban Oasis
Following the end of the mining era, the five-hectare estate grounds underwent a massive €1.3 million modernization and ecological renovation project by the town of Anzin to transform the private noble domain into a public park.
The Landscapes: The park features magnificent, century-old lime-tree alleys, beautiful themed botanical gardens, trimmed hedges, and expansive lawns that offer a peaceful green escape from the surrounding urban streets.
Family Amenities: Designed for community relaxation, the grounds feature a scenic central water pond, well-maintained walking paths, children's play areas, and quiet shaded benches, making it a highly favored weekend destination for local families.
